RVing W/Medical Problems

Well, this medical stuff is part of RVing because you will be out and about and bam, something will happen.  It just seems to be happening to me more than the average that’s all.  Yes, at times I can be wreck less and some of it is due to just plain old age.  That’s one reason I got a 3 wheel motorcycle at least that’s what I thought.  It can be more wreck less than a two wheeler.

Anyhow, we went to Walmart to pick up the rest of my meds for my foot.  Carol went in because I can’t walk long distances. The PA said she talked to them and it’s all straight.  BS!!!!  The meds weren’t straighten out.    Next stop was Urgent Care.  I wanted to pick up a copy of my visits.  No problem.  Then I said I wanted to talk to the head mucka muck.  I wanted to lodge a complaint.  Well, I waited and waited.  The hell with that.  I left.  A little later I get a call from Doctor mucka muck about my complaint.  All this doctor did was justify and made poor excuses for the PA’s actions.  At at no time apologized for her lying and not performing her job in a professional matter.  Oh well, the PA has a good example of being a professional – NOT!  Blah blah……..

We have no need to rush down to North Ranch now which is good.  Details another time.  Since my foot has decided to take a longer vacation we’re gonna go back up to Thousand Trails Lake Of The Springs Sunday.  We were there before coming here.  Maybe we will get a chance to break bread with Frank & Gloria yet.  We will stay until next Friday and then head South for North Ranch for a week.  Heard that their might be a birthday party for two handsome guys there.

Even though I can’t walk I got on a ladder to clean the windshield off.  Just took everything slow.  Coming back in the rig I stubbed my big toe.  Yes, the sore one.  I think they heard me over the nearby jets taking off.  Damn did that hurt.  Damn bugs…..

See ya……….

Back to the Urgent Care/RV tires

We went back to Urgent Care because I wanted to get refills on my foot meds to last until we got back to Livingston and I could see my regular doc if need be.  That’s about 5 weeks away.  Plus I wanted to get a copy of my record from my last visit which included an x-ray and a special blood test.  I got another blood test but Mission was not accomplished as we later found out

Then it was to Sam’s.  Our Jeep tires were wearing in the front from the heavy towing of the bike trailer.  Being a full time RVer we have always used Sam’s or Walmart for tow vehicle tires.  Being nationwide and having lifetime balancing/rotation it’s well worth it.   We got the tires balanced and rotated front to rear, no cost.

For our large RV tires, well, we don’t keep them long enough to need them.  That’s one way but a little expensive.  Our 1999 Winnebago Ultimate we had to buy tires once.  We waited until we were in Oregon because they don’t have sales tax.  We went to Les Schwab a large west coast chain.  Normally we ran Michelin but switched to Toyo tires.  It was a monster saving.  Look at the front tires of big trucks.  They’re usually Toyo's.  I ran Toyo’s when I drove a big truck.  They’re a softer tire and a smoother ride than Michelins.  Now if you abuse your tires like hitting curbs a lot or running off the road, stick with Michelin.

We then went to Walmart to pick up my prescription.  Now it’s been about 2 1/2 hours since called in.  They said oh, we will fill it now.  Twenty minutes we got it.  It was the wrong amount.  The pharmacy said that it was for only 20 days and no refills.  I called the Urgent Care Facility.  They took the message and said someone would call me.  Two hours later I called them back with an attitude.  The receptionist said she had a note that the PA called me and told me she corrected the prescription for one refill of 20 days.  I got hostile.  The PA never called me and I said I wanted to talk to whoever was in charge.  I called the PA an out right liar.  Five minutes late I got a call from somebody.  I told the woman that the PA lied that she talked to me.  She lied to me saying that I would get a prescription of 60 days.  The lady was very nice and just listened.  She said she would have someone call me to get all straighten out.  A few minutes later the PA called me.  She was sorry there was a miss understanding between us.  I told her there was no miss understanding and reminded her exactly what she said (meds for 60 days).  She said that she already called Walmart and added two refills to my meds that say no refills.  I said I’m leaving the state and I need all the meds NOW like I told her earlier.  She said “oh yea” and would call Walmart now and correct it.  I said good and why don’t you call me back when your are sure there are no snags.  She did about 15 minutes later.  During the middle of all this we went back to the rig.  Five hours had passed and my foot was killing me.  My foot got real bad to the point I could hardly walk without major pain.   Tomorrow I or Carol got to go to Walmart and pick up my meds and then Urgent Care to pick up copies of my two appointments that they said would be ready.

This type of screw up can happen anywhere.  It’s just not because we are in a new area.  The Urgent Care facility and the previous appointment went very well.  It’s this PA today that didn’t have her head screwed on for what ever the reason.

The rest of the evening Carol waited on me because she didn’t want me to holler when I moved around.

Let’s see what happens with my foot.

See ya…………..

Sick Again?!

People have asked how’s my foot.  A lot better.  Can’t wear shoes yet but getting close.  Now I have a temperature of 101.  Man, I can’t get out of this sick mode.  I guess Nurse Cratchett (Carol) will med me up.  You know the last few years I’ve seen more Docs than all the years before….total.  Carol said I’m getting old and my body can’t take the abuse I give it anymore….blah…blah…..I think she’s right but don’t tell her.

I still can function with the temperature but just got the blahsays.  We went to the base commissary this morning and that was something I shouldn't have done.  I really felt like I was in Disney land, very light headed for this big head.

We got back to the rig and I was burnt.  Carol fixed me up with some Acetaminophen.  Later in the day my temperature was gone and I was doing OK.  Of course my foot pain was starting to get worse.  If it isn’t one thing it’s something else.

Towards evening I got out and washed the bugs off the RV front end.  Then I did the windshield as high as I could reach on a short ladder.  Another day for the rest of it.  We sat outside and enjoyed the evening.  The outside temp don’t drop like it did in our lost campground in the evenings.  That’s nice.

This campground on base very quiet except for the gun shooting.  We must be near their shooting range but the noise is faint.  Nowadays and anywhere else it would be a major concern.  Baltimore – Carol & I grew up around there.  It’s a shame, enough said!

The S Curve Exit with An RV

We hooked up the Jeep and pulled away from our site at 7:30 AM and headed for La Mesa Davis.  We had to have our large slide out checked out again and our entrance step wouldn’t go in.  Plus our electronic door locks wouldn't work.  These (steps/locks) we paid $226 to repair at La Mesa Tucson.  Needless to say I was pissed.  So the GPS had us leave the base a different way.  We didn’t realize it until we were upon the tight “S” to get out with cement barriers.  We almost made it.  That damn step scraped the cement barrier and I was real close on the other side with the tail end.  We got thru.  I didn’t want to stop and look at the step.  It sounded terrible.  About half way to the dealer I pulled over to take a lookie look.  No damage to the step!  We were damn lucky.  Onward ho….. DSC_0005 DSC_0010 DSC_0014 DSC_0021

We get to the dealer about 9 AM.  They had several people directing inbound rigs here and there.  We got up into the service area and disconnected the Jeep.  Our service writer was Matthew.  A 6 ft 8 inch dude.  Yes, he was very tall.  He was very nice and I liked him.  Other service writers could take lessons from this guy.  We went over everything and the fact that La Mesa Tucson repaired everything last month.  No problem.

We got in the Jeep and headed out.  We ended up at the University of California Davis.  Damn,  this place was gigantic.  I’ve seen big University's that I thought were big but this place was way bigger hands down.  We stopped at a In/Out Burger for a very early lunch. I got the double double and Carol got the cheeseburger plus fires.  We took it all back to the dealer to eat.  We both decided lunch was fair and the fires were almost raw.

Matthew gave us a call and the rig was ready and of course no cost.  They have ordered some slide rods and fixed the other things.  The rods will be sent to La Mesa in Mesa (Phoenix) at our request.  These rods are adjustable and you put them inside the rig against the slide out and the wall.  This will stop it from creeping out.  Newmar along with other manufactures used to have these years ago.  Matthew told me that they have replaced the slide out mechanisms as many as 5 times on some rigs.  I told him we were on number three.  He agreed it’s a terrible system.  On the 2016 Journey they have changed the system but still a Lippert (junk).

The return trip was uneventful.  This was driving through Sacramento each time.  It wasn’t  too bad figuring we hit the rush hour dead on coming in.

Of course our toilet is acting up now.  The white ball doesn’t close fast like it should.  I used Q tips and dish detergent.  Then it works great for a day.   Anybody got some cures?

Long Way 56 Miles

We’re off and running at 8 AM, kinda.  Our figgin steps wouldn’t go in and our electronic door lock wouldn’t work.  Gee, paid La Mesa Tucson $226 to fix the identical same thing on March 2nd.  We have an appointment with la Mesa Tucson to fix our slide out that La Mesa Tucson repaired also.  I will try to go in without an attitude.  Maybe a sarcastic one in front of customers.

Anyhow we stopped and did a dump before we left the park.  Of course the water was not working at the dump to wash down things.

The drive to base was fine and just had to watch out for the step hanging out an extra 2 feet on the left.DSC_0001

Rice paddies galore.DSC_0007  We get to base and it’s a very tight fit getting the RV through.    DSC_0011 DSC_0012 DSC_0013 Came within a few inches of the roof of the guard building.  OK, we made it.  We’re following the base map address to the fuel station with diesel.  Oh no, several bridges in a row with a 2 ton limit and no place to turn around .  Wait a minute.  Most cars weigh over 2 tons.  I went for it.   Onward to the gas station.  It’s not there.  I called base info who gave me the correct directions.  Old map.  We get there and it’s a little small but as along as no other cars pull in, no problem.  Diesel went up 33 cents in 10 days.  It was $2.93.  Getting fuel, it shuts off at $90.  $242 dollars later we’re done and no other vehicles around.  Great.  We head for the campground called FamCamp like most bases.  Opps, just passed it.  Wrong address on the map that I put in the GPS.  Oh well.  We drive a few miles and are able to turn around.  We get to the FamCamp and the bulletin board has our site since we already made reservations.  This Egret welcomed us. DSC_0003-001  DSC_0002
DSC_0019 No problem getting into it and we got FHU 50 AMP for $18 a night.  Plus great Verizon and MiFi internet.  DSC_0020The Harley trailer we have to park just across the street behind us.  It’s the old mobile home area.   DSC_0021

We have to leave about 7:30 AM tomorrow to get to La Mesa in Davis by 10 AM our appointment time.  That means we have to drive right thru Sacramento in the morning.  The fun just keeps coming.

Now for NASCAR….

See ya………….

Damn Good Friends

We all have them, just damn good friends  As we all get older, medical problems arise for sure.  Sometimes the problems are really bad and sudden and ever lasting.  Sometimes their like mine, come and go usually.

How do you give moral support to others when they are down and out?

Last night was ceremony night for the Line Dance Rally.  Carol go an award for wiggling it the most.  DSCN0829 I even got one and it was for being Carol’s driver.  DSCN0833Our first rally here was in 2000.  Yes, 15 years ago.  I guess we both got a reputation.

The line dancers have one more dance Saturday night then it’s officially officially over.

With no sewer hook up our tanks are just about full after two weeks.  We do have a rest room/showers just down from us but still.

We pull out Sunday

See ya……….

Oh No Not Again

Was I unconscious or dreaming…..theirs a very loud emergency radio outside of my rig.  I look out my door and theirs several emergency vehicles with lights flashing away and medics roaming around.  Oh no, I’m having flashbacks.  I check myself out and it can’t be me I think.  Nope, not me.  DSC_0001 I adventure outside the rig and evidently it was someone else's turn.  The person did eventually walk out of their RV but was immediately put on a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance.  That’s all I know.

RVers – it’s best you know the “how to’s” if emergency arises.  If not for you or love one, maybe a neighbor.  Every park usually say on their site maps what to do.  Read it at least one time.  You could save a live for just a little bit of information.

Carol is still line dancing at her rally here everyday.  She’s a happy camper, line dancer.

See ya……

OOOOOOOOOOOOOps

Carol won’t wait on me anymore so I must be OK and I’m pretty close to being “normal” again.  I tried to put a shoe on and that didn’t happen.  Still tender.

Sharon Piccolo isn’t a RV full timer.  How do you know?  She stepped out of her and husbands RV trailer and must have forgot about having to step down.  She missed all the steps.  She must be use to their home and its steps thus not a full timer.  A full timer has to worry only about one home and its steps.  She fractured her leg.  I think I would rather have a sore toe.  Sharon – get better.  Maybe your hubby can build you a ramp for the RV trailer door.

We met Larry & Marilyn Forbes for dinner down in Yuba City at a place called Lumberjacks.  Three out of four of the meals were either over cooked or under cook.  The service was real good and the prices were just OK.  Won’t be going back any time soon.  We stayed for two hours and fixed most of the world problems at hand.  As usual, it was great.  Not real sure when we will see them again.  It won’t be soon enough for sure.

See ya…….

RVing Along With Wild Animals

DSC_0008-001

 DSC_0006-001 DSC_0005-001DSC_0007-001

One thing about RVing is that you will sooner or later you will be in a place where the animal life is abundant both wild and domestic.    We have invaded their land and they have decided to put up with us rather than to avoid us here.  Pretty neat.
