Update on Kraig

Still going up hill with Kraig medically  and are near the top.  He had one stint inserted.  A  previous inserted stint in another location (8 yr ago) was not repairable.  His heart at one point in all this was down to 10% of its capacity.  That’s very dangerous.  The heart does have permanent damage but not known how much yet.  The docs are reducing his very heavy drugs.  Kraig now seems to be himself pretty much.  All of us are in a wait and see mode.

Carol & the kitty are doing fine.  I’m on the downside of a cold…….a cold not the flu.  Been there done that.

It’s freezing cold here in Richmond.  Most RV’s are not made to withstand cold weather like this.  We have two plug in heaters going most of the time during the day and all the time at night.

Our pond in our site turned to ice last night. ( Not this pic.)  Wow.  This park has an ice skating rink now.  How many of you can say that while RVing?DSC_0002

They have had snow flurries since we’ve been here but no real snow.  Maybe this weekend.DSC_0001

We’re hoping to get up to Kraig’s work next week.  He’s been with the same McDonalds for 15 years.  He has had no paid vacation NOR health insurance in those years.

His landlord seems like a good guy over the many years.  We need to thank him and get Kraig’s room rent up to date.

More Tests?

Kraig is doing OK.  More tests today (?).  He will get operated on Monday and at that time they will decide all what they will do.   Two stints and ?

At the Richmond Logistics Base, where we are at, we found the Elks that the Army  has agreed many years ago with the land owner to be responsible for.  These 2 dozen Elks aren’t real friendly but wont go far from you.DSC_0009DSC_0005DSC_0004DSC_0003DSC_0008

I wonder if Kraig flew to the hospital here in this type of helicopter!DSC_0001

Life’s Unwanted Adventure

This week flew by.  Here’s some pictures and you can make up your own stories.

We departed Quartzsite, AZ,  4 PM Monday.DSC_0001DSC_0004DSC_0003DSC_0016

Yes, 9 degrees at 8 AM going down the road.  It was damn cold!DSC_0019DSC_0029DSC_0034DSC_0042DSC_0046DSC_0050DSC_0073DSC_0077DSC_0079DSC_0086

We (Carol, me, the cat and the RV) made the 2,500 mile trip in our RV in less than 3 days.  It was the best decision we made because:

We finally found this military campground about 10 miles from downtown Richmond, VA.  Water and 50 amp with a dump nearby.  We are the only ones here and that’s fine.  We will be here until ?DSC_0090

Our son Kraig is now in the Heart ICU at the UV Richmond Hospital.  He was flown (helicopter)from the hospital in Fredericksburg, Va to the Richmond hospital earlier this week.  We got to see him Thursday.  He’s having very serious trouble with his heart.  His heart got to 10% of its ability.  Not sure what it is now – not good.  The docs have been running different tests and meds.  They had a tube from his leg to his heart one day.  Then another day had one from his neck to his heart to monitor.  They will do their decided on surgery Monday after some more tests Sunday.  Not looking as bad as it was at one time.

Retirement is being able to do stuff without worrying about the time.

GONE - - - - - -

Gone – we were in Quartzsite, AZ Monday.  At 4 PM we left and Thursday about 1 PM we are in Richmond, VA.  We, Carol & me (+ cat) are fine and the RV is resting after 2500 miles.  Details later because a lot of things are happening right now.

Retirement is doing things that you want to do without thinking about how it will impact your job.

Silly Al’s

When RVers come to Quartzsite there’s one place they all seem to try to eat at.  Yes, Silly Al’s.

It’s crowded, noisy and dim.  Yes, it’s one of those places RVers don’t stop at unless you know the reputation of their pizza.  It’s among the best.  Either that or your drunk from all the beer.

We go up on the side walk with the Jeep and park.  So did Bob and Tami.  Ed & Sandy are with them.  There’s a wait to get a normal parking place usually.DSC_0003DSC_0001DSC_0002

We had to wait outside to get on the “LIST”. Then we were inside and on the “LIST”.DSC_0004

Then we got a table and had to wait for the beer.DSC_0005

Finally the pitchers beer came and we didn’t care how long we had to wait after that.DSC_0006

The two large mixed pizza’s came, I think.  A couple of pitchers of beer and I’m not sure if it ever came.

We had a blast for our annual outing at Silly Al’s.

It was windy (10-20 MPH)  but the sun was out and sunny.  How about in the 50’s during the day and 40’s at night.  A lot better that last year for sure.

Retirement is being able to eat at Silly Al’s.

First Day Of The Big Tent

Let’s see…we went to town, Quartzsite, to check on the RV Show Tent and Tyson Wells flea market area.  Parking was a bitch, normal sometimes.  We did Tyson Wells and it was a little bit smaller but did have a few new vendors.  I had an Italian Dog for snack……. Carol got a few things from different vendors.

Then we walked over to the Big Tent.  It was crowded and people had their BIG ass dogs with them too as usual.  We did about half of the tent and left.  We got a bunch of time so we will wait till then if we remember.  Then a bunch of pictures.

Yesterday it got up to an unbelievable 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.  Now that’s with friends and RVing – outstanding.

Retirement - warm, sunny, friends and plenty of water and don’t have to go back to work……. that’s retirement.

Arizona Stripes

One of the places we go to for breakfast in Quartzsite.DSC_0001

Charley/Gloria, Ed/Sandy, Bob/Tami and us…..DSC_0002

Carol said she was gonna put me in this Adult Day Care.DSC_0003

Then out here we all go….DSC_0004DSC_0006DSC_0009DSC_0013DSC_0014DSC_0018DSC_0019DSC_0020DSC_0022DSC_0024DSC_0023DSC_0026DSC_0028DSC_0029DSC_0030DSC_0031DSC_0033DSC_0035DSC_0036

Az stripes are weed scratch marks on both sides of the Jeep.  Yep, and we got them on both sides of the Jeep.

Retirement is finding a place at 5 PM that’s 75 degrees and very sunny……here we are…
