Day 4 Up Into the Mountains

Up at 6 AM and the sun is up.  Carol is up and going for a walk down to the lake here at Fort Sumner Lake.  Kraig is still sleep as the cat.

We got about 240 miles today then some boone docking with Mark.

We’ve been asked what has been our route.  Well, how about the cities and you place us on the map.  Let’s see, Bridgeport Tx, Haskell Tx, Littlefield Tx, Sumner NM and today will be Santa Fe NM then in the Carson Forest near Cebolla, NM.  I will see how this camper’s solar power (300 watts) and two house batteries are.

We had some trouble finding the dump station but finally did more into the park.

We are under way by 8 AM and we see some results up a bored person near the park.

Then on to the highway….

Yes, someone actually painted the bridge pink.

Nope.  Not this Las Vegas in NM for us.

Open road….

Then you always have signs to read. 

In Santa Fe, NM we got gas.  It was $2.59 and about 7.4 mpg. 

Starting to get a bit greener and some small hills.

We are up about 7700 feet in the woods  overlooking the city of Cebolla down below.

Mark is over there.

It got down to 53 degrees last night.  Just a little on the nippy side in the morning.

Retirement is being able to find the cool weather.

Day 3 Entering New Mexico

We were at the park dump by 8 AM.

Kraig was volunteered……

Carol volunteered to hitch up.  I must have been busy with Kraig.

We got gas just before we left because it was $2.56 a gallon.  Still getting 8 mpg.  Just for info the diesel has been running about .40-.50 cents more a gallon.

Then we enter New Mexico.  Looks like they went all out as usual on their sign.Nice roads……….

About 140 miles today…….? Plus about 1/2 hour of rain.

Hey, we got water electric and entrance fee for $14.  Plus we got a table shelter.  Nice little park.  And there is a large lake you can go swimming in or fishing. It’s suppose to be 93 degrees at 4 PM but don’t feel like it at 4400 feet elevation.

And it’s Carol’s and my 47th Anniversary.  Kraig is gonna shisha bob some shrimp for our left over rice.  Oh boy………..

And he’s cooking… it was very good of course.

Then the dark rain/thunder clouds.  Saying it was a thunderstorm was really not accurate.  It friggin poured rain and the wind shook our little camper.  This went on for about 2-3 hours.  Temp dropped down to 62.  Nothing but a thing.

We slept thru the night and all is well.

Retirement is actually watching and enjoying a storm.  Not really…….

Tuesday Day 2

Kraig cooked us egg sandwiches outside on the hot plate this morning.  Isn’t food better when someone else cooks it, especially 7 o’clock in the morning.

We were on the road at 7:30 AM today and have about 125 miles to go to….. I forget… it’s a free park.  It wasn’t that bad.  Oh yea……It was Haskell and a FHU free city campground but we went on another 180 miles.

I tested the RV fuel tank.  I ran it just about out of fuel.  53.1 gallons of gas is just about out when its a 55 gallon tank.  Got the fuel for $2.55 a gallon and would have paid a lot more because we were out in the sticks with no other cities around for 50 miles.  I was lucky….

We stopped at a little wayside and ate lunch.

Then we arrived at another free park (EWdump)in Littlefield, TX

We went to this local Asian Cuisine.  It was damn good. Plate like this was $7.  Lots of left oversIt was hot along with some hotter stuff.  He likes it HOT!

We sat out for a change back at the rig.  It wasn’t as muggy but still hot.  Plus the shade and wind was nice.

Retirement is having simple fun….

Day 1 August 6

We were pulling out of the driveway at 7 AM.  It just happened that way.

We are on our way.  Love the new GPS if it only worked 100%.

Which way do we go?

300 miles later we are at….in Bridgeport Texas where ever that is

We used the 30 AMP very well and even most of the night.

Kraig opened up the freezer and found out there was nothing that could be had with other things falling out.  Carol likes watching.

Kraig cooked turkey burgers outside on the induction hot plate.  It was pretty good.  We ate outside in the hot weather like campers.  Then rushed in.

Retirement is enjoying the food even more…..

Sunday 5 August

Carol & I went to Jon Glick’s Memorial at the CARE center.  Shawn Loring was the narrator of Jon’s life story.  It was a very well put together ceremony.

Afterwards we continued to get ready for camping.  As recent full timers of over 18 years we never had to pack the RV because we had all of our “stuff” already in it.  Well, now has campers we had to “get ready” and fill the 24’ class C RV with “stuff” to go camping.  That was something new.  We figured if we forgot anything we would just buy it on the road.

The cat was ready….

The big RV said it was about time it sat for awhile.

The ducks wanted to go but they will stay behind this time.

The Mariner is in the shed again waiting for our return.  No rush!

Retirement is coming and going at ease sometimes.

OUR SON’S LAST RV TRIP WITH US

After leaving VA

with our now 40 year old son (3 Aug) Kraig,

we arrived in Livingston, Tx around 1 July. 

His medical condition appears to be normal on the outside but its all internal.  We came off the road to take care of him.  We have enough meds until Oct.  Doctors can not do anything more for him except to medicate.  We have been told he would need care probably up to the New Year. 

He has decided that he wanted to go on his Last RV Trip with us traveling around, zigging and zagging.  Whatever he wants to see or do!  We all will be leaving Monday 6 Aug heading Northwest in our 24’ class C towing the Jeep.   Wish us luck! 

We will be stopping at some old places that we have visited with him in the past plus all the little tourist stops in between.

We will end up in Las Vegas, NV so he can spend some time with his sister.  Then afterwards return to zigging and zagging for our trip back to Livingston.

18+ Years of RV Full Timing

We are off the road to help our son. 

We went to VA from AZ in January because he needed us then.  Now we are all in Livingston, Texas as of July.  We are on our lot living in the mobile.  It’s hot and humid here. 

The 2014 Winnebago Journey 36M will probably be going up for sale in November or so, not sure.  Our 2014 Coachmen class C is here and we will keep it for future short trips.

We had a blast living full time in our RVs and traveling around.  Did we have some rough times – sure.  It was all an adventure.  Highly recommend it for most people.  We have many stories that we’ve collected over the years like other people but most of ours are RV related.

Will the blog end?  For now, yes……….. I just can’t see doing a blog setting still…….and not RVing.

Retirement is helping someone that really needs it and at any cost.
