Vegas

I think we were on the road at 7 AM to Vegas with a little over 200 miles to go.

It was a pretty scenic sight. 

We got to TTN Las Vegas about 11:30 AM.  We got diesel in Kingman, AZ.  Diesel was $2.89.  Diesel here in Vegas is around $3 and gas is about $2.60.

Our daughter Kristy came over and brought her boyfriend, Jason.  They left after several hours of getting up dated.  It was fun….. and needed.

About 8:45 PM I took Carol to the airport for her flight to Balto.  It’s seem strange to drop her off at the Spirt terminal and drive away.  The old days you could go to the inside of the terminal and be with whoever at their gate.  Then watch them take off at big windows.  Not anymore due to security so forth and so on….

Retirement is not having to go to bed due to work the next day.

Vegas is Tomorrow

We went on to Congress, AZ and stayed overnight Friday & Saturday at Ed & Sandys.  We didn’t even but our jacks down but we were pretty level for the slides.

The 30 AMP electric was perfect.

Saturday was a quite day for us.

Retirement is doing what you need to do sometimes – more often.

Changes

Carol’s Mom passed away this morning in Baltimore, Md in the hospital.  It was unwanted but kinda expected. 

Carol has a flight out of Vegas Sunday.  She will be with her close brothers there. We are enroute from Sierra Vista, Az.

Retirement is dealing with the expected but unwanted.

Sleepless Nights

I was awake from 1 AM to 4 AM.  Not all that unusual for me.  I might work on our schedule or at least review it.  Then I sleep till 7 AM.  I still got my 7-8 hours sleep.

This morning it was Golden Corral’s time in the barrel.  We got charged 20 cents extra each on our meals compared to the wall menu .  I talked to the manger.  I said to him , and I was friendly, he needed to change the register or the menu price to match.  I asked if they would match when we returned 24 hours.  His reply got me going.  He said he would change it by then maybe but probably not.  He was condescending and just negative in nature and walked away after the very brief meeting.  OK!

I next called Golden Corral’s corporate office in NC.  I was then referred to another office in Colorado.  They told me it was a franchise here in Sierra Vista and then could only refer my concern to the owner.  They could not do anything else.  That’s hard to believe when it comes to fraud by a nation wide chain.. I was told I would get a phone call from the owner of the franchise or his rep.  It will probably be the manager that I originally talked to.  By the end of the day, no calls what so ever.  Oh well.

Friday we go up to Benson, AZ about 30-40 miles and see Sharon & Don for a couple of days.  They got nice weather there too.

We will try and put soap down in the tanks/lines/valves to wash/clean them out when leaving.  I checked the screen in the water pressure gauge.  Seems like the campground might have a lot of red carp in their water to at this least site.  I took out the pressure gauge/debris and put in a water pressure reader.  It reads 70 lbs and I’m OK with that.  A lot of people aren’t.  RVers usually use what I did have and that is a 40-50 lb pressure regulator.   I do use it under normal conditions.  RV manufactures are suppose to make the water connections to withstand over 100 lbs.  Years and years of doing the full time taught me that.  Maybe after 18 years of full timing we need to learn another way.

Retirement is always being willing to change.

Comment Section of Blogs

Maybe at Quartzsite one of you kinda smart people in the blog world can show me how to set up for comments and see the stats and all that stuff in regards to this blog.  I would like to add a comment section but lack the visual on how to do it.  Show me…….. It don’t work when you just tell me how to.

Our clicker for the door locking wouldn’t work again.  Years ago I had to pay La Mesa $100 one time to fix it and of course it lasted about two weeks and we were gone of course.  I now kinda know how to fix it by rubbing “Strike Hold” liquid on the contacts between the door and door frame.Works fine until it don’t want to.  That’s good for about a month to three months and I do it again when it starts acting up.  I need to take the contacts all apart, add wire and solder them.  It’s on my list as no rush.

19 degrees in Livingston, TX the other night.  No thanks.  In Yuma next week it will be in the mid 70’s.  Now in the 60’s.  I think we will go on to Yuma, AZ next week….. duhhhh…..

Here’s our sight aboard base…

We see deer everyday in or around the park.  Must be no hunting on base or no kids.

Oh yea.  I didn’t go to any ER/hospital in 2017.  That’s really a record for me.  I go when I’m really hurt.  Then sometimes I get flown by chopper or fixed wing to a different medical facility.  Those flights are pretty cool, not in 2017 though.  Yea…….

Retirement is having the time to take care of things that I didn’t have time for before.

Warm Here In Sierra Vista

Yep, it’s been in the low 70’s during the day and in the 40/50’s at night.  Yes, we are enjoying the area’s weather a lot.  Carol wears a light coat early in the morning and that’s it.

Our site, as is all sites here, are level, large cement pads, FHU, 50 amp with WiFi and cable TV.

Talked to Ed Kruty yesterday.  It was nice hearing his voice.  He has the idea of doing the Maritime in 2019.  It’s an idea we’ve had for years but it seems like Alaska kept getting in the way.  It’s something we will talk to Ed & Sandy about for sure.  We will see them next week.  Who knows, maybe 2018 for Maritime?

The commissionary here on base was big but not over powering for sure.  Just like any food store, you have to know what a good deal is on a certain product.  No blind buying although their meat department is pretty dog on good.

We’ve had a nice steak in the freezer and it was time to make room in the freezer.  We had steak for diner and it was tender for a change.  Maybe it was the freezer burn.

Retirement is not being told where and when to go to work!

Tombstone

Today  we went to Tombstone.  Only a few shops were closed.  About the same number were out of business.  We visited Tombstone a number of years ago.  Being a tourist destination it hasn’t changed much.  We did notice the overall prices of things were more reasonable in Tombstone  than Bisbee.

We attended the early show of the “shootout” not to be confused with the “OK Coral Shootout” which is the same price at a different location on main street.

Using real guns with blanks was a little uncomfortable for me.  They were loud for sure.  The show was entertaining.  The cost was $8 for us seniors.

I didn’t see ANY cigars under $10 each.  I’m sure they had them but I didn’t see them

We got back to our campsite and I had to capture this bird in a nearby bush.  He was a character by the way he acted.

Looking out our front window at our campsite we saw the moon.

Another great day even after 17 1/2 years of full timing and even after retiring from the Marine Corps 24 years ago.

Retirement itself is really nice and so is full timing.

Getting Here In Sierra Vista, AZ

We left Livingston the day after Christmas as usual.  Before we did, I washed the Winnebago and the Jeep.  Yes, we now have a new 2017 Jeep.

It got a little nippy….

We then left and drove about 400 miles to a stop for a night that we had been before.  The town was Eldorado, TX and the place was at their court house.  They have a nice big parking lot and the local police was there also.  Plus they had left their vendors electrical poles on.  I couldn’t find the 50 to 30 amp plug so we ran a 110 extension cord to our indoor little heater.  It worked fine.

The next morning it was damn cold.  Like in the high 20’s.  We lived so we left.  Then it started to drizzle.  Yes, that means icy roads and of course the windshield.  We pulled over about 20 miles down the road.

In the day it got up to 40 degrees while driving I believe.  The second night we stopped in Van Horn at a Passport America to get unfroze. 

The next day we drove to a military famcamp, Fort Apache at Sierra Vista, AZ.  Real nice and $132 a week.  We will tour the area in the Jeep, Bisbee, Tombstone, etc.. during the week and and show some picture then. 

Nothing New Year Eve….. no big deal anymore.

Getting it together, not that I ever had it together.  Looking at 1 January to pick it up again.  Plenty of stories with Verizon, Direct TV, Winnebago and a few others to include full time RVing going on our 18th year.
