Anchorage Restock Wed June 14

We said our goodbyes last night so we pulled out of our site quietly as we could.   I think it was about 8 AM.  We stayed around 50 mph almost all of the 200+ miles and passed by only about a dozen vehicles. 

Along the way…….

Oh yea, we didn’t see any animals BUT we saw one owl setting on a sign next to the road. Plus one Eagle.  It was a bird day…

On base is Black Spruce campground.  It’s $33 for a pull thru FHU.  We got a site first then went out to restock.  We got gas which was $2.64  and we got 10.1 mpg on this tank.  LP was $3 bucks a gallon.

Next was the grocery store.  Military bases call them commissaries.  Anyhow, there went $140.  That’s worse than Walmart.

We had a very quiet night.

Retirement is watching the economy grow faster than your retirement.

Going South Tuesday June 13

We left the 3 Bears campground about 7:30 and went to Fast Eddy’s for a quick breakfast.  Then we went over to the Shell station for coffee to go.  Their coffee is pretty good and it’s $1.39 for a big cup.  Now we are heading south from Tok.

Then we see our 1st moose.  As time went on we saw another.  Plus we saw 11 Trumpet Swans.

Then we saw this cop that had this tanker pulled over.  The driver is on the left with his hands up in the air.  As we went by the comp was putting him in handcuffs.  That’s all we know.

Here’s Carol, Sue and Jon at our site.  This site was $20 bucks and no hook ups.  Not really worth it even in Alaska.  We had fun with Jon & Sue.  Their heading for Valdez because their mail is being forwarded there.  We sat out probably about 4 hours or so.  Temps were in the 50’s and very cloudy.

Here’s a fast running stream behind us all.

It rained some last night but not heavy.  This morning we head North about 30 miles and turn left on to the Glen Highway.

We got word that “Kay” Peterson quietly passed away Monday night.  Cathy & Bud and all her relatives got to be with her.  She’s with Joe now.  Joe, here comes those “Hamburger Helpers”.  Sorry Joe, we kept her down here as long as we could.

Retirement means getting older and saying Goodbye to friends.

Tok Monday June 12

Today was kinda get some stuff done today.  First we went to Willard’s for the camper V10 engine oil change.  I had Ford special blend oil and a Ford filter.  They changed all for $25 out the door.  While there I asked about this 5th wheel.  He said the guy turned right too fast around a corner and the rig rolled over in a ditch taking the truck with it.  It’s a lot worse than it looks fro this picture.

Next was the laundry down at the Tundra RV Park.  They got a pretty big laundry for public use.  The cost was $16.50 for three loads.  If you stay in their campground the rate is $40 FHU and $38 for EW.  We pay $28 for FHU at Three Bears little park.  They have showers at 3 Bears if you want, no charge.

Next was the post office (drop off), grocery store and gas.  The grocery we just picked up a few items like bread and tea bags, etc.  The gas station was $2.89 for gas or diesel.  The camper got 8.6 mpg this tank.  Plus they got chicken gizzards and mushrooms.  Both are what I like.  I got an order of them babies. 

Then back to our site by 1 PM at 3 Bears.  We set up again and added water and did a dump at least until tomorrow morning.  We’re done our needed duties. 

Our one TV station came back up.  It’s for kids during the day then does several different network shows at night on this one and only channel.

It rained last night and rained some again this morning.  Jon & Sue pulled out heading South.  We might meet up with them tomorrow when we head that way.  The afternoon rains have ceased.  The sun is in and out and the wind blows in all directions.  67 degrees outside was today’s high.

Jim & Linda Works (Loosey Goosey) caught up to us today here in Tok.  They came up via the Inside Marine Passage like we did. Of course we went to Fast Eddy’s for dinner.  You know I’ve had 5 orders of mushrooms.  I’m done.  I had a Pepper Jack hamburger which was just fine.  Jim & Linda said they would go to Mukluk Land tomorrow to see what’s going on there that everybody is talking about.  They plan on leaving after Mukluk  and go to Fairbanks.  We said our goodbyes now rather than in the morning.

We are planning to be in Hope, AK on or about the 18th of June or so.  If your in the area, stop on by.  They’re will be a few us there before going down to Seward for 5-6 days.  Just drive around until you see orange…

I have 3 chicken hitch hikers that jumped on when we were leaving Chicken Sunday.  If you want to glue a hitch hiker to our flock – go for it!

Retirement is being able to say your not sorry for retiring.

Chickenstok/Tok Sunday June 11

Music played till 2:30 AM last night (Sat).  It wasn’t loud for us.  We got up about 7 AM.  Nobody is leaving here.  I was wondering if we missed something.  Don’t think so.

We pulled out about 8:30 AM for our 60 mile trip back to Tok.  It started to rain 1/2 way back and continued the rest of the day.

We got to Tok around noon.  Jon & Sue Glick were here at Three Bears Campground.  We chatted  with them for a long time.  Then we went to Fast Eddy’s for dinner.  We all agreed they were at their usual best even thou the greeter was a bit snotty and I told her.

It was nice to have electricity again.  The campground is empty for us all plus a van.

Since it was raining we watched two videos and then went to bed.

Retirement is being able to speak out a little more when something is wrong.

Chickenstock Sat June 10

I slept till about 6 AM.  That’s sleeping in for me of course.  The outside temp was 65 degrees.  Our voltage was 12.6, nice.  Just a couple of weeks ago we were hoping it got up to 60 degrees.
