We’re Back

We are doing great.  We’ve been enjoying Montana, Wyoming and now the Black Hills in South Dakota.  Here are some picsDSC_0021 DSC_0044 DSC_0050 DSC_0053 DSC_0063 DSC_0066 DSC_0077 DSC_0087 DSC_0097 DSC_0119 DSC_0126 DSC_0142 DSC_0001 DSC_0018  DSC_0024 DSC_0022

Carol’s older (65) brother, Paul, and my friend, has passed away.  It was sudden.  His hobby was old world parrots (McCaw's) and snakes.  The collection is large.  His wife needs to sell them quickly.  If you or somebody you know are into this kind of stuff, have them contact me immediately at dennisrving@gmail.com.

GEICO approved the $8,500 (minus deductible) for the repair of our front end on the RV.  They have to replace the front end fiberglass.  That is scheduled for the week of 8 Sept.

Our large long slide on the RV continues to give us trouble.  Winnebago will fix it when we got there.  The Winnebago dealer in Anchorage did more damage than repair.  Otherwise the Winnie has been doing fine the first 15,000 miles.

We plan to meet Denny & Susie Orr for a few days near Chicago after the Winnie’s repair.  Then it will be on to Carol’s relatives & friends near Baltimore.

I’ve started thinking about the next really BIG adventure.  Alaska 5 times is enough.  Are you setting down…nah….think I will wait until later on to let you know.  It’s gonna be a bigee but try and guess or even suggest.

The blog will continue but not everyday probably.

See ya………

Day 73 OFF THE GRID

We had some choices to make when we left Wednesday 6 August.  We were thinking of going to the Wrangell Mts and meeting some loosey goosey people.  We were thinking of tagging along with Butch & Kathy to Tok then going to Haines & Juneau and meeting others.  Then what about going to Hyder and meeting up with others?  Glad we said good byes to all that were in Valdez when we left…..

So we decided to go off the grid…  It is loosey goosey right!  If we see you, we see you.  Don’t be overly surprised when that orange Jeep meets you along with a cold beer.  Maybe some Fireball.

See ya in ??????????

Alaska Day 72 Valdez Last Day

Today we decided to just ride around and just see what happens.  We ended up by the old Valdez that do not survive the 9.2 earthquake in 1972 I think it was.  DSC_0017-001 DSC_0018-001  DSC_0021-001

No idea what it is or was..DSC_0026-001DSC_0027-001DSC_0020-001.JPGDSC_0025

Here’s a nearby creek and the salmon were running.DSC_0013-001DSC_0011-001

Later we invited Steve & Nancy over for lunch.  Their rig was in town getting worked on.  DSC_0028-001

We all had a halibut (& cod) cook out.  It was a lot of fun as usual.  We all over ate because there was plenty of halibut. DSC_0003  DSC_0002

Tomorrow Butch/Kathy and Carol & I leave.  Butch and Kathy are aiming for Tok which is about 325 miles.  That’s a lot of miles up here.  We’re not sure other than heading north.  There are several places to stop to meet up with others.  OR we might just do a little free lancing on our own.  It is Loosey Goosey after all.

See ya…….

Alaska Day 71 Valdez Boat Trip

It’s a whale of a story butt here’s the end..DSC_0159

We went on a 6 hour cruise out of Valdez the Stan Stephens in the coupon book for $125.  What a deal.  the weather stated off rainy.  15 minutes into the trip it cleared up pretty nice.  Later on it drizzled a little but the rain was not a hinder at all.  We saw just about everything you could see on a cruise.  Here just a few pictures….DSC_0021   DSC_0036 DSC_0048DSC_0027

This is a mountain of ice…..DSC_0117 DSC_0116DSC_0120 DSC_0121 DSC_0124 DSC_0131

Here’s the young captain (single) explaining the glacier.. She’s been a captain for 11 years.  She knows the history of these areas/water and shared her knowledge.  Her narrative alone was outstanding.DSC_0132

Butch wanted to hear more.DSC_0086

I think this picture was really funny myself…DSC_0017

Well, it turned into one hell of a good 7 1/2 hour cruise and it seemed like everybody was happy, happy, happy.  We were!   THE END……DSC_0158

We got back to camp and Mark was here.  Us guys sat out and BSed each other until we couldn’t stand it any longer.

See ya…..
