Hair......

What do I do to get a haircut without a long wait.  I go to our barbershop here in Livingston and arrived about 6:50 AM and the open sign was just put out.  I was second.  I like that.  By 7:30 AM there were 5 waiting for haircuts.  I got my hair cut short.  How short is it?  It’s so short that I don’t have enough hair to comb very much.  Yea………..   I got back home and Carol was waiting.  Now we go to Wal-Mart before the mob hits.  No problem.  It was a breeze and Carol  got a motorized cart too.
Got back home and got everything situated.  Next was lunch at La Colona.  Every Thursday the “gang”  hangs out and eats Mexican and BS.
Got back home and just did some vegetating, nothing special.

Little RV

Wednesday we decided to leave.  Our cat wanted to stay.

I wonder if they use it as a duck blind also.

Lunch time…

I got gas and with all the start/stopping/city and tugging a 4,400 lb car the little RV got 8.6 MPG.  Gas was $1.65  a gallon.

We are thinking about going out again this Sunday.

Ferries

Today (Tuesday) we went to the U.S. Coast Guard Station Galveston via the car.  We got to ride across the water via the ferry (vehicles too).  The ferry usually runs at least one boat every hour.   They have three ferries for the busy days and they are 24 hours a day weather permitting.   AND they are free.  We even got an escort by a pod of porpoises.   Once we got off the 15 minute ferry ride we drove about a 1/2 mile and arrived at the station.  Carol got her new military I.D. at the station in very little time.

We didn’t really go anywhere due to Carol being unable to walk.  We returned to the park via the ferry  and vegetated the day away.

Carol & the kitty both did well for camping in a small RV.  We only hooked up to the 30 AMP electric although we had full hook up.  We had empty gray/black water tanks and full water when we arrived.  We didn’t conserve we just wanted to get a rough feeling how everything works.

We will probably leave tomorrow.

Maiden Voyage

We pulled out about 10:30 AM in the Little RV and the car in tow for the beach above Galveston called Bolivar Peninsula.  It’s about 25 miles Northeast of Galveston.  Along the end of the 115  mile jaunt……………

Here we are at the Passport America RV Park called  Bolivar Peninsula RV Park.  We chose this drive in site on the water.  FHU $16

We had a few to choose from.

I backed and forthed a little to get the rig level.  No big deal.

The little RV was loaded (max fuel, water & stuff, etc.) and was doing about 60 MPH with few a few towns and red lights.  It road real nice!    Carol said it wasn’t as good as the big rig but OK.  It did have a lot of road noise even on a smooth road.  I had it pretty much loaded and I didn’t feel any difference of the ride with the add on rear air bags.  The big test will be the actually weighing of it again.

We got one little electric heater that should hold us real good over night that will be in the 40’s.

I made a chicken salad for us tonight which turned out better than I thought.  I did a walk also.  I did one this morning back in Livingston before we left (7 A.M.).

Keep On Loading That RV

We just continued loading the RV with those “oh yea” we need this.  It’s got just about everything in it.  Plus there are compartments under most of that stuff.  This will be over 3/4 of the stuff we will take on long trips like up North.  Basically lacking a lot of food and clothes.  We got 2,000 lbs carrying capacity on the rear axle and another 600 lbs on the front so we are good to go.

Opps.. forgot the grill.  It will go in tomorrow because I’m cooking my healthy food on it tonight……steak….

Mark wanted to eat healthy too so he came over for dinner.  Afterwards he worked on Carol’s computer.

Getting Ready For Camping

I walked around the block at 7 AM.  Enough said.

Since the little RV was setting right next to the water spigot I went ahead and filled it up with 50 gallons of water.  I maxed out on the water to see how it drives/rides and all that stuff.It wouldn’t start due to a dead battery so I used jumper cables from the house batteries to the engine battery.  It don’t have a battery join together switch like the big rigs do.   It started right up.

I drove the little RV in town to O’Reillys Automotive store.  They had a Motorcraft 850 cranking battery in stock and it has a 3 year full replacement warranty.  The cost was $153 plus I showed them my retired military card and got an additional 10% off.  AND they installed it.  That was great!

Next it was on to the grocery store for salad stuff and some NY steaks on sale.  Hey, these steaks are high in protein and low in carbs.  This might be a pretty good way of life eating like this.

Coming back I stopped and got gas for $1.66 a gallon.  That’s really nice!!!!!

When I got back I parked in front of the big RV.

We needed to load it up for Monday’s trip down near Galveston.  It was level but no hook ups.  That big RV was hogging them all.  I ran an extension chord from the big RV to the little RV.  I only needed to get the frig going.

I loaded the one outside large compartment with a lot of stuff to get that loaded feeling going down the road. 

You know, we forgot what it was like to load a RV to go camping for a few days like back in the old days.  It’s work!  Tomorrow we will finish up by loading up the frig and clothes, cameras and computers.  Hope we fit.

I tried to get a haircut while in town but the barber was closed even though there were people inside.  Oh well, he opens at 7 AM during the week.  We will be leaving late morning Monday so that gives me an opening to get ur done.  It’s gonna be cut short.

For dinner I cooked a package of skinless boneless chicken.  Steak tomorrow night. I cooked the entire package of chicken and freeze the rest for soups, salads and stir frys.  With the chicken we had a salad of course and sweet peas.  Wow, are we eating healthy or what?  No snacks that night. 

In the evening in darkness I walked around the block again.  Enough said again. 

Friday when I was in the hospital Mark got me right after my ultrasound.  I was zonked out. Hey, what are friends for?  Carol was wheeling around in the borrowed wheel chair.

Back to RVing Stuff

Well, I came out of the surgery room and I was a little more out of it than normal.  My eyes opened and my head was a little clearer and their were Carol & Mark.  Shortly there after the doctor came in.  He said everything is fine – no worries.  That was a big relief for many reasons.  After several additional blood tests he said I needed to see my regular doctor because he will be probably giving me meds for my high cholesterol.  Also, I was to loose another 20 lbs.  Damn, he’s cruel……20 lbs! another!!!!!!!! but not as quick as I lost the first 26 lbs.

Mark drove his incapaciated friends back home.  First we had to stop at McDonalds because I hadn’t ate in about 21 hours.  I had a grilled chicken sandwich and Dr Pepper.  Hey, it’s a small step for men and a leap for me.

Now I will return to talking RV stuff mostly.   Our little RV needs a battery.  There’s the RV talking about stuff.

Fake Cast

Carol went to her foot doctor today (Thursday).  Yep, it’s official now, it’s fractured.  They installed an air foot device.  She can pump the device up so it feels more comfortable.  Now, she can walk on her foot a little bit.  Another four weeks the doc said.  As you can see, see’s not really happy about this whole ordeal and another 4 weeks!  No return appointment unless there is a problem.  So, she’s almost finished with her doctors.

Her doctor’s office wanted $300 for the new device.  I said hold on here dragon breath, that’s not right.  We shouldn’t pay anything!  I explained our insurance which they said they were familiar with.  They made a few phone calls and low and behold the price came down to $60 which I still disagreed with but paid.  We will contact our insurance company and get it straighten out one way or another.

My ultrasound is tomorrow (Friday).  After that we will find out when we will be leaving Texas.  If it’s no more doctors, then it’s no more Texas.

The little RV needs an engine battery like I said the other day.  I got one more test to do to see if something is drawing current from the battery.  If not, I will go to O’Reillys Auto store here in Livingston.  I already visited them.  They got a battery (Motorcraft) that has a free replacement for 3 years for $153.  Plus they just started a 10% discount for veterans.  Plus, plus they install it free.  Now we’re talking……. Probably a Saturday or Sunday thing if they don’t keep me at the hospital.  Seems like I have a magnet for ER/hospitals the last few years.

Monday we are planning a maiden voyage for the little RV & Carol to Bolivar Peninsula.  There’s a Passport America park there.  It’s about 20 miles NE of Galveston via a ferry.  Carol as an appointment to get her new I.D. card made Tuesday in Galveston.  We will be towing her Mercury.

Our night temps have dropped into the 30’s.  That means the heat pumps can’t work.  We have two heaters that work fine.  The little heater is set on low and a bigger heater we set on 66 degrees.  They keep the coach at 71 degrees.  Winter is here – time to leave but can’t.

Sprang-Nope-Broke-Yep

We went to Carol’s doctor (follow up)today.  Now she’s only been to the ER and they are the ones that said it was a sprang.  Today at her regular doctor she said it was a fracture.  So, tomorrow Carol see’s an orthopedic doc.  Then the next day, Friday, I go get my check out procedure done.  Damn, we are busy.

Our little RV needs a doc too.  I’m it and diagnosed it as needing an engine battery.  It  really struggles to turn the engine over.  The voltage was 11.3v.  I hooked my solar battery charger up to it.  Tomorrow I will check and see if it does any good.  I want to hold off until next year (Oct 2016) if at all possible.  Then I will have a new battery for Alaska.  It’s a group 65 battery which is pretty popular.

My box batteries appear to be new and are in real good shape.

I was going to wash the RV/roof.  I got up on the roof and changed my mine.  The roof needs a real good wash and I’m just not up to it.  I blame the 55 degrees high today for not doing it.

We think Ed and Sandy need to return.  We need drivers and a worker boy (Ed).  We can provide a 50 amp full hook up site, vehicle and most tools and a lot of encouragement.

Moving RVs

Today was get back to normal positions of the RVs.                          Before                                 and afterIf we have visitors with their RV we normally park them over where the little RV is parked.  It’s a 50 amp FHU. 

The RV port (roof) will be the same size as the cement pad 18’X41’.  The 12’ side walls will then go to a height of about 14 1/2 feet tall in the center.  I haven’t figured out the sat dish but no rush.

Here’s what happens when my RV tires sat on cement.  The little RV sat for about 10 days on the new pad.  When we leave in the big RV in 4 weeks I will set the little RV tires on pads.   Jim, I saved the pictures for you if you want them.
