Last day in Whitewhorse

This DC3 is a weather vane here in Whitehorse. If the wind can move this plane, I don't want to be around in a RV. It's one of the world's largest weather vanes. Down in AZ it would probably spin off its pedestal. It was pretty neat. That's me in front. Carol said I was so full of wind that I could move it. I only moved it a little..




















We were never on this road. Neither was Carol. She's standing in front of a large wall photo. We are not really in the Yukon. All of are pictures are fake pictures like this one. We are sunning down in Florida.

















I told Carol our rig would like this when we are done in Alaska.

















We went to the Yukon Brewery here in Whitehorse and got a tour by this young man. He really enjoys his job. It must be the benefits.

















Tomorrow we leave Whitehorse, Yukon and head for Tok, AK. It's about 400 miles. Between here and the U.S. border is the worst roads/construction of this entire trip. We will have to make it only once because we cwill come back via Dawson City coming down from Anchorage. tomorrow we will drive about half way then rest and then probably drive more around 9-10 PM to get thru the remainder of the 270 miles of the roads from hell. Datstorm is working great. See Ya...........

Needless to say we are now in Whitehorse. I had to pay Carol to model for the sign.



A visit to Whitehorse is not complete unless you go to the Frantic Follies. It's a great time capsule of the vaudeville era. Outstanding performers. We laughed a lot at these true comedians and performers.

This picture is really the back of buildings and in the alley. Theses are all walls painted by local artists to look like a street. They have these in and about town. Oh, this was taken at 10:30 PM - no flash







The SS Klondike. It was the last of the stern wheelers for the Yukon River. Pretty neat boat with a lot of history.
We also visited Wal-mart and the thought of taking a picture did enter my mind but I didn't. You all know what they look like. Well, they are the same up here....

Last Day In Skagway

We finally met up (caught) Jerry & Earlene Bloomquist. We saw their rigs in Dawson Creek but they left before we knew it was them. Then we passed them later the next day, but wasn't sure it was them yet. Either that or they were trying to get away from us. Well, we cornered them in Skagway. Being they were right on the harbor, they couldn't run from us anymore. So we had them. We drove up and blocked their rig. Of course they came out and waved at us beforehand when we parked across from them with our Honda and they saw the advertising on the rear window. If we hadn't, they would have been gone 0700 the next morning putting their RV on a ferry to Haines. Anyhow, they are traveling with other friends and we might get to meet them in Tok next week. This is their first trip up north.



Here is big boat. There are two smaller boats on the other side. They usually stay for less than 18 hours.


















The boat below was pretty big also. They had 4 boats in here today. When the people get off the boat little Skagway is crowded. Today we watched a Siberian Huskie just wondering around. That in itself was really not watchable. It was the fact that the tourists where taking movies and pictures from a distance of the dog. Now that was funny. I don't know if they that it was a wolf or a sled dog but it was funny how they were afraid to get any closer than 20 feet to it. It was just a dog running around peeing and sniffing and they were taking movies.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 17th we leave for Whitehorse, Yukon. It's about 200 miles so we will be there between Wednesday afternoon and Friday. Is our schedule tight or what! It's been an adventure here for sure and many more to come. When we get WiFi we will update this blog and the datastorm location. See Ya..........................

More of Skagway

This was our campground, FHU, and visitors come and go. $32.50 a night and hope your neighbor doesn't have slides. One TV station in town - not to bad if you like cartoons all day long.

















This is the vistior center.

















Histroy says this (Red Onion) was a House of Pleasure at one time. Now for 10 bucks all you can get is two beers and no onion. Meals for two are about $25 and up, nothing cheaper. That's true for all of Skagway. A bowl of soup and a beer for one person will run $11 plus a tip. A box of wine at the liquor store was $22. The atomsphere is priceless I must admit.

Skagway boats come and go

Here is the view from our windshield. Not too bad there in the distance. Yes we got out with our datastorm (internet) even though there are mountains all around.

















Here is Skagway with no ships in dock. They roll up the sidewalks. Tourists go back to their ships and leave.
















Then another boat arrives and new tourists arrive. The boat is in the background in the middle of main street.


















The women folk just hang around waiting to put on a show.

Carol will read & CORRECT all blogs

Carol is laughing real hard at my Queen's English and spelling. She will now proof read all blogs. I thought they were kinda funny myself. I am more into the content rather than grammer & spelling. You might have noticed this. (Ha, ha.) I thought they read fine even when Carol was reading them out loud and crying with laughter - hey - it's fun - mission accomplished. Yes, she proofed this.......

Sharon helped me learn to crop and SAVE so here is our sign going into Alaska. as most of you know, when we leave we have to go back to BC and then the Yukon again to get to the big part of Alsaka. Skagway is just a port with no highways other than in and out. Look at a map.

Carol said to send this to porove to everybody that the wheels don't shine all the time. It must have been cloudy day when this was taken. My wheels always shine.

We had some minor paint damage to the rear of the RV. The car guard bounced rocks back onto the rear of the rear. Needless to say the rear of the rig has pit marks on it and the raditor got nicks in also. More than a few. The car front bumber on the left and right sides have a lot of noticable pit marks also. I will put the car cover (under front end to top of windshield) on when we leave and not the car shield.

Sunday - Teslin, Yukon to Skagway, AK

Well folks here is the bridge going into a small town of Teslin. they are all small towns up here. This one had a eatery, gas station, somekind of store we think was open and that was almost it. Oh, a campground, not a bad one either.

















Here is some real sad news for all. The famous road side stop of Mukluk Annie's has closed is doors for good. I got it from the horse's mouth about 2 months ago when I called to squash a rumor it was closed. She said and very emotionally that they decided to close for good this year. I thanked her for the opportunity to vist in years past. She almost cried. It was a tradition for many RVers to stop, eat a meal, wash their RV, do laundry and then spend a free night over looking the Tesln River. Maybe even a free boat tour weather permitting. It's now part of history of the Yukon. It will never be forgotten about of those who visited and have fond memories of. Good Luck to them.









The Grizzly bear. He was eating flowers and when he heard dour engine he bolted like he didn't care for loud nosies of course. I got a blow of this picture and you can see the flowers hanging from his mouth. I haven't learned Picasa pictures to do a blow up and SAVE IT yet. Maybe Sharon can give me a step by step lesson. Carol thinks I'm talking line dancing now.

Opppps - I deleted the bear picture...Oh well..too late now.


The picture below is coming in Skagway. Maybe you all have the knowledge to blow it up to see it. I have the equipment but not the knowledge.
Tomorrow (Monday) we go downtown again and take the train ride to White Pass.

Oh yea, we are surronded by mountains on three fronts. The fourth is the water with mountains just across the bay. WE GOT DATASTORM. It's not pointing into the sky at all, straight with the roof line of the RV. I think we our micro waving our neighbors dinner.

Toad River to Teslin

Well folks, I got up to four pictures now. Update - Friday we traveled from Dawson Creek (Mile Post O) to the Testa River MP 366. That’s 366 miles. We are just over the Testa River bridge with a great view of the river. What’s really neat is that we stayed in the same spot in 2004. Wow, we had Mom Hill and Stan/Linda Frasier here also in their rigs. No Datastorm here, just too many mountains. We saw four bears each at a different place along the road today. The roads were real good until after Ft Nelson then about 45-50 MPH was tops due to the road conditions.

Today, Saturday, we are at MP 769 just about 7 miles south of Teslin. It's a closed down gas station on high ground. the datastorm came up. Today we saw 6 more bears, 6 buffalo, 1 carbou and one moose. That was all within the first 1 1/2 hours of starting. We started about 7 AM to see the animals. It's cool. Carol jumped out of bed this morning to go down the road only to find I was already up. We went thru some road construction which was gravel. The car lower front end got it pretty bad with nicks in the gray rubber. the car shield got beat upon. the Farton's raditor got a lot of little dings. The rear of the coach got a lot of tiny chips. Oh well, next time a little slower and it's officially a used rig now. PS I nipped a orange construction barrel also. I will need to some buffing to get the tail wag scrapes out. I didn't even move the barrell. It was alittle tight.
I haven't learned spel check yet. We took over a 100 pics today and it's hard to pic only 4 out of a hundred.
Tomorrow we hang a hard left and go south to Skagway, AK. We plan going to the only show in town and ride the Skagway train. Probably spend 3 nights there. hopefully I get these shiny wheels up to par.

Tried to clean the front of bugs and do the windshiled but the mosquetos wanted dinner. I decided I wanted to stay slim and trim and keep what I had. They won.
